초록
In 1972, Joachim Scharfenberg was interested in the phenomenon that had arisen from the discussion of the relationship between pastor and people seeking advice, and also from the dynamic interplay of forces in the relationship between interlocutors in counseling. According to Scharfenberg, the successful pastoral care must consider addressing the transfer by the interpersonal dynamics between the two parties. However, he states that the general human relationship in the pastoral situation and psychoanalytic elements is not important in the early formation of this pastoral approach. Scharfenberg mentioned in his article which was published in 1961, that it is difficult for the counselor to deal with clients because of his “ignorance”of psychoanalysis and “helplessness” with the unconscious play of forces. Therefore, he points out that the pastor must learn psychoanalysis in order to recognize the importance of the hidden transfer phenomenon. He tried to make clear that both of psychoanalysis and psychotherapy in pastoral care are not the treating agents, but only one of them is allowed to play as the only tool for the interpretation of the psychological factors that interrupts the action of God. It is Scharfenberg's major contribution to the psychoanalysis in pastoral relation which he discovered during his studies from 1961 to 1972. Scharfenberg believes that in pastoral care, when people are seeking advice, the main task of the pastor is to lead them to experience personal encounter with God. In contrast, according to Scharfenberg it is important to use the interpersonal dynamics of their relationship between the person seeking advice and pastor in his pastoral conception. Consequently, it is necessary for the successful pastoral leadership that the nature of man must be understood thoroughly. Scharfenberg believes that psychoanalysis can be very helpful for this matter. Furthermore it offers a crucial opportunity of his conception of the Christian pastoral counseling to therapeutic counseling.
Abstract
