Abstract
This study aimed to estimate a specific spatial radius of juvenile delinquency in the vicinity of school facilities by examining cases of juvenile delinquency and the location of 56 school facilities in B administrative district, A city, in South Korea. To estimate such spatial radius, this study compared the global density of juvenile delinquency within the whole study area to the local density within the concentric buffers with different radii. In particular, this study assumed that under the routine activity theory, the local densities of juvenile delinquency in the vicinity of school facilities would be higher than those in distance. Examining the spatial data of juvenile delinquency and school facilities, this study found that local densities of delinquency within 100m of school facilities were higher than any other areas. With these results, this study suggests that the limited resources be discriminately deployed according to uneven spatial distribution of juvenile delinquency.
