청소년기 사회적 배제 경험이 우울감에 미치는 영향 - 소년원생을 대상으로 -

Depression and suicide rates have shown dramatic increases among adolescents in recent years. As a result, many studies have been conducted to understand the main factors that cause teen suicide. These studies have emphasized that depression is one of the most important factors which can cause life-threatening behaviours in youth, especially among adolescents in juvenile detention facilities. The purpose of this study is to recognize the main factor that leads juvenile delinquents to depression and to suggest strategies for their better adjustment in youth detention centres. Strategies such as provide education and effective treatment programs for the positive social reintegration after their release. The study examined 138 juvenile detainees(69 males, 69 females) in an adolescent detention facility in Seoul, Anyang, Cheongju. Their demographics, criminal records, scores of depression scale from the Adolescent Personality Assessment Inventory(PAI-A), and Risk Assessment Tool for Juvenile Offender at Police Investigation, Korean Version of the Social Exclusion Experience Scales are collected from the total of 138 youth offenders. Based on the data, descriptive statistics and correlation analysis were conducted to measure the relations to depression. Simple regression analysis and hierarchical regression analysis were also conducted to confirm its impact on depressed juvenile delinquents. Results demonstrate that juvenile detainees who experienced ostracism have more impact on depression than demographics and other factors. The result suggests that juvenile offenders in adolescent detention facility should be provided with strategies to decrease the experience of ostracism and to cope with the experience of interpersonal relationship exclusions. Suggestions are also provided for further study.
