지식기반경제하에서 지역들은 새로운 성장 동력으로 지역혁신역량을 강조하고 있다. 따라서 지역의 혁신역량이 실질적으로 지역 경제성장에 기여하는지를 분석해 볼 필요가 있으며, 이러한 배경 하에 본 연구는 우리나라 16개 시･도 지역을 대상으로 지역의 혁신역량이 지식기반산업의 성장에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 본 연구에서는 기존 논의들을 바탕으로 지역혁신역량을 크게 경제여건, 서비스 인프라, 연구자원으로 구분하고, 지식기반산업의 성장에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 보다 구체적인 분석결과를 위해 지식기반산업 전체와 지식기반제조업 및 지식기반서비스업으로 세분류하여 분석하였다. 분석결과 지식기반산업의 성장을 위해서는 지역의 혁신역량의 강화가 중요함을 발견할 수 있었으며, 몇 가지 정책적 시사점을 도출할 수 있었다.
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to explore the innovation capacity in the regions of Korea and examine empirically how regional innovation capacity affects a region's industrial developments. Among many areas of industries, this study focuses particularly on knowledge-based industry. Knowledge-based industry, which has been highly expected to be a new engine for regional growth, is closely related with innovation because it produces higher value added through innovation by using knowledge as main input. In this thesis the regional innovation capacity is divided into three categories, which are regional economic base, regional service environment and regional R&D resources. Using the data collected during the years of 2000-2009 from 16 regions in Korea, the theoretical model used in this paper is tested in order to analyze the present status of the regional innovation capacity and its effects on the growth of the knowledge-based industry. This study draws policy implications for future development of knowledge-based industry.
