A Translation of the Bible in Manchu - With Focus on Christian Terms

이 글은 그리스도교의 경전인 성경이 만주어로 번역되는 과정에서 생겨날 수 있는 여러 사회문화적 현상들을 살펴보는 연구의 기초를 놓는작업으로 준비되었다. 서양 문화의 상징이라 할 수 있는 성경이 동양 문화권에 받아들일 때 생겨나는 문화적 수용 관계를 파악하기 위해서는 우선 번역어의 성립 과정을 검토하는 일이 선행되어야 할 것이다. 그럼으로써, 그리스도교에 대한 다양한 개념을 받아들이는 동양인들의 사고 방식을 엿볼 수 있는 단서를 찾을 수 있을 것이다. 이 글에서 논의한 바를 다음과 같이 분류할 수 있다. 첫째, 원어를 음역한 것 anggel, purofiyeta 등 둘째, 이미 있던 단어나 표현을 이용한 것 abkai ejen “하늘의 주인, 천주”, oboro be alimbi “씻음을 받다”등 셋째, 설명구로 옮긴 것 ceni weile ci uksalafi joolimbi “그들의 죄에서 풀어 몸값을 지불하다”, gemu beyei yabuha ehe babe aliyame unggi. sain debederembi “모두 자신이 행한 악한 일을 뉘우쳐 내버리고 선으로 돌아가다” 등. 넷째, 새로운 단어를 만든 것 haheri “고자”. 이 글을 통해서 어떤 언어 공동체에 새로운 개념이 도입되었을 때에그 개념이 어떠한 과정을 거쳐 그 공동체에 수용되는지에 대하여 기초적으로 이해할 수 있으며, 앞으로 성경 전체에 대하여 본격적인 논의를 하는 시발점이 될 것이라고 생각한다.
