초록

The state is usually regarded as one of the powerful driving mechanisms of social change. It might directly engage in the planning and implementation of economic development and market reforms in socialist countries. The state in North Korea also has significantly changed the lives of people and social relations through extensive state-initiated projects, educational reforms and market revitalization. Marketization in particular has been perceived as a potential catalyst for systemic transformation in North Korea. This paper in this sense examines how state policies and markets affect the lives and consciousness of the people in North Korea under Kim Jong-un regime, and how they may promote changes in the overarching social structure as a whole.
