무역개방의 경제적 효과와 구조적 변화에 대한 추정: 1956-2015년 기간 오차수정모형을 이용한 한국의 시계열 자료 분석

초록

이 연구는 1956년부터 2015년 기간 한국의 무역개방의 경제적 효과를 분석하고 1962년부터 1979년까지의 구조적 변화를 검정한 것이다. 연도별 시계열자료수집이 가능한 변수들을 사용하여 단위근 및 공적분 검증을 실시한 결과 시계열이 공적분 관계에 있기 때문에 오차수정모형(ECM)을 사용하였다. 검정에 사용한 성장모형은 구조적 변화를 분석할 수 있도록 변형하였다. 검정결과 경제성장률에서 1962년부터 1979년까지 구조적 변화가 발생했음을 보여주고 있다. 오차수정모형을 사용하여 무역개방에서 경제성장으로의 인과관계를 검정한 결과 단기적 인과성뿐만 아니라 강 인과성도 존재하는 것으로 나타났다. 반면에 장기적 인과성은 존재하지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 무역규모의 확대가 경제성장률을 이끌었음을 시사한다. 국내총투자율과 최종소비지출실질증감율 및 제조업부문성장률 그리고 인구증가율과 도시인구증가율을 통제하였다.

Abstract

Employing 1956-2015 annual time series data and using the trade balance as a proxy for trade openness this study examines the Korean trade openness-economic growth linkage and tests for structural change for the period of 1962-79. A significant structural break is observed. The economic growth model used in this study is modified to allow for structural stability analysis. Error correction model (ECM) is performed on a time series containing 60 years in this study. The estimated ECM reveals that trade openness raises economic growth throughout the decades 1956 to 2015. Gross domestic investment rates, final consumption expenditure fluctuation rates, manufacturing sector growth rates, population growth rates, and urban population growth rates are controlled for. Each of final consumption expenditure fluctuation rates, manufacturing sector growth rates, population growth rates, and urban population growth rates are positively associated with economic growth rates.
