초록
This article concerns the nature of changes in intimacy caused by social distancing due to Corona 19. People's direct intimacy began to decrease while virtual intimacy such as chatbots is on the rise. How should we understand the emergence of this new form of digital intimacy? To answer this question, I will critically engage with Sherry Tuckle, an authority on digital intimacy. She argued that AI's emotions are nothing more than programmed acting, thus having no genuine authenticity: AI doesn't have the ability to interact emotionally with humans. I can't entirely agree with her argument, for her view of emotion is anthropocentric and based on individualistic ontology. Against her, I argue that affect is fundamentally relational. Intimacy is not inherent in the individual existence of humans or AI. It occurs in the relationship between the two. Turkle is wrong to disqualify AI's emotion on the ground that it is programmed robots.
