본 연구의 목적은 최근의 시행된 중국 금융시장 개방이 금융서비스무역에 미치는영향을 예측하는 것이다. 중국 금융시장 개방은 미･중 무역마찰에 따른 미국의 요구와밀접한 관계가 있는바, 한･미･중 세 국가를 중심으로 금융서비스 무역 현황과 이와관련된 국가간 규제의 차이를 비교 분석하였다. 실증분석결과, 교역국 간의 금융서비스규제 차이가 클수록 금융서비스 무역에 부정적인 영향을 미치며 특히 교역국의 금융서비스 규제가 제한적이지 않을 때 양국간 규제 차이의 부정적인 효과가 더욱 큰것으로 나타났다. 여러 정책범주 중에서는 기타 차별적조치와 경쟁제한조치가 낮은수준일 경우 금융서비스 무역에 부정적인 영향이 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. 중국이금융시장을 개방함으로써 한국을 포함한 다른 선진국들과의 규제의 차이를 좁혀나가면금융서비스 규제가 제한적이지 않은 한국의 금융서비스수출이 특히 활성화될 수 있을것으로 기대된다.
Abstract
This study empirically analyzes the determinants of trade in financial services using the Service Trade Restriction Index (STRI) and heterogeneity index published by the OECD to predict the effect of China’s recent liberalization in the financial sector. Results show that differences in regulations in financial services between trading partners negatively affect trade. This effect is especially important for countries with relatively fewer restrictions. Among various restrictions, we find that regulatory heterogeneity hampers trade more in countries with fewer competition restrictions and other discriminatory measures. Therefore, we expect that Korea’s trade in financial services will increase as China eases regulations in the sector. This will narrow the difference between the two countries.
