Abstract
Climate Value at Risk (CVAR) is estimated for the Korean stock market and major sectors. The climate scenarios of NGFS and BOK were used instead of the probabilistic method. The CVaR of the stock market was estimated to be between 2.6% to 7.1%, ranging from 61.4 trillion won to 168.6 trillion won. CVaR was higher in the high-carbon sector than in the low-carbon sector and higher in the 1.5°C scenario than in the 2°C scenario. Without a systematic GHG reduction policy, climate risk could increase in the stock market. In particular, the impact of the high-carbon industry may be greater.
