시문학 연구의 전환을 위한 예비적 제언-‘설움/비애’의 계보학적 고찰의 필요성

The serious study on some emotions in modern literature is to look into a history of our mind and mentality and to consider a relationship between evolution of modern civilization and several changes of our emotion. It is absolutely necessary to recognize the source of sorrow and sadness because Korean modern poetry since its early years have been often influenced by such emotions. Explaining the formation processes of Korean modern poetry, we have to reveal why such mood of melancholy descended on it. This is important, since a literary expression of deep melancholy could be a meaningful manifestation of our own collective unconscious linked to many social and political changes. Thus, for an in-depth understanding of poetic representation of sorrow and melancholy, it is required to read and analyse the unconsciousness of text. More exact distinction is needed if a genealogical table of melancholy in Korean poetry is to be made. For example, 'Baekjo' associates's decadence in 1920's, Kim So-wol's and Han Yong-un's sadness, Kim Soo-Young's and Kim Choon-Soo's sorrow, and 4·19 generation’s depression and boredom are subtly different from each other. So, its emotional characteristics should be minutely examined from various points of view.
