김승옥 소설에 나타나는 페르세우스형 인물 유형론: 여성의 훼손을 중심으로

본 연구에서는 페르세우스신화 속 인물을 현대적으로 재구성하여 등장인물의 상위유형을 정립하고자 하였다. 이렇게 재정의 된 인물유형에 맞춰 김승옥의단편소설 「생명연습」, 「건」, 「염소는 힘이 세다」, 「무진기행」, 「서울의 달빛 0장」에서 나타나는 인물을 다시 분류하고 분석하였다. 그 결과 페르세우스가 영웅이 되기 위해 입문시험을 치러야했듯이 페르세우스형 인물들이 남성세계로의진입을 위해 공통적인 과정을 경험하고 있다는 점을 발견할 수 있었다. 그 과정에서 발생하는 모든 선택은 페르세우스형 인물들의 방어적인 태도에 기인하고있다. 그들은 상처로부터 자기 자신을 보호하기 위해 강간과 폭력을 행하는 가장 저급한 위치에서부터 심판과 용서를 남용하는 신성한 위치를 모두 점유하고자 한다. 이러한 미숙한 대응은 김승옥이 그려낸 페르세우스형 인물들이 입문의례를 치렀음에도 여전히 성장하지 못했다는 사실을 반증한다. 본고에서는 이렇듯 여성인물을 향한 작중 남성인물의 무지한 대응을 살펴봄으로써 작가가 남성인물들이 가진 두려움이 어디에서부터 발현하는지 고민한 흔적을 찾아보고자하였다. 그 결과 작가는 페르세우스형 인물들의 모순된 태도를 통해 여성세계의절대적인 힘을 발견하고 이해하고자 했다는 사실을 확인할 수 있었다. 작가는남성인물들을 강간과 폭력을 남용하는 범인(凡人)의 자리를 놓지 못한 상태로여성을 심판하고 용서하는 성인(聖人)의 위치를 점유하고자 하는 어리숙한 모습으로 그려냈다. 여기에서 작가의 비판적인 시각을 살펴볼 수 있다.
Abstract
This study set out to reorganize characters in the myth of Perseus in a modern way and establish an upper type of characters. Based on the character types established in this manner, the investigator classified again and analyzed characters in Kim Seung-ok's short stories including Practice of Life, Geon, A Goat Is Strong, A Trip to Mujin, and Chapter 0 of Seoul's Moonlight. The results show that his Perseus-type characters experienced a common process to enter the men's world just like Perseus had to take an introduction test to become a hero. All the choice made by Perseus-type characters in the process were attributed to their defensive attitudes. They try to occupy all the positions from the lowest one of committing rape and exercising violence to the sacred one of abusing judgment and forgiveness in order to protect themselves from wounds. Their immature responses demonstrate that Perseus-type characters depicted by the author have not grown even after an introduction ritual. By examining male characters' ignorant reactions to female characters in Kim's stories, the investigator tried to find the traces of his contemplation over the source of male characters' fear. It was found that the author tried to discover and understand the absolute power in the women's world through the contradictory attitudes of Perseus-type characters. He depicted how male characters were naive as they tried to occupy the position of saints that judged and forgave women while failing to let go of their position as ordinary men abusing rape and violence. Here, the writer's critical viewpoint was found.
