개혁개방이후 중국의 가족변화: 변동의 중층구조와 혼재성

초록

사회변동이 가속화되면서 중국 가족은 크게 변화해 왔다. 중국가족의 사회주의적근대성은 개혁개방 이후 고도 경제성장이 지속되고, 경제발전으로 인한 지역 및 계층적 격차가 심화되면서 매우 복잡한 양상으로 변화하고 있다. 최근 가구규모가 빠르게 축소되고 세대구성이 단순화되면서, 대도시에서는 소위 ‘421’ 가족으로 대별되는 핵가족화론이 부상하고 있다. 그러나 지역 및 계층, 민족에 따라 이러한 가족변화는 다양한 불균등성을 보여주고 있다. 예컨대 농촌에는 여전히 시부모와 동거하는 비율이 높고, 부모부양의식이 강하게 남아있어 현재의 변화가 서구와 동일한핵가족화를 의미하는지는 확실치 않다. 더욱이 중국여성의 경제활동참여와 가정 내지위가 높고 일부 부부관계의 개방성이 확인되고 있지만, 이는 경제성장이나 정보화․지구화 등에 의한 후기 근대적 특성이기보다는 오히려 사회주의 체제와 연관된 것으로 볼 수 있다. 이런 점에서 중국 가족변동의 중층성과 혼재성은 향후 우리와는 다른 사회변동의 구성적, 시간적 차이가 중국의 가족을 어떻게 구조화하고 있는지에 관한 후속적 논의를 통해 규명되어야 하는 과제를 안고 있다.

Abstract

This paper aims to look at the family changes of China after the economic reform and openness era. Along with Korea, Japan and China had been similar cultural tradition- confucian culture and familism. But China had been undergone family modernity through socialism in the latter half 1940s, it led to difference of the other East Asian family characteristics. Thus, recent family changes of China due to rapid economic growth and urbanization has been shown the similarity and heterogeneity of Korea. China is facing the decrease in family size, individualization, increase in diverse forms of families. But China still shows bigger than Korea in family size and patri-locality where a female comes to live in husband’s house after marriage is partly maintained. On the other hand, as women’s social participation is accepted as a given social fact in China, sense of socioeconomic equality of women is higher than Korea. While limited to some urban areas, male housework participation is rather high as well. Thus we are to look at it from macro level, characteristics of China family can be seen as mixture of tradition, socialistic modernity and post-modernity. But, direction of family changes in China can't be seen unequivocal. So different sequencing of social changes brought about complexity and multi-layed characteristic of family changes in China.
