타자를 범주화하는 문화적 태도에 대한 현상학적 비판 -르네 지라르의 모방이론을 중심으로-

본 연구는 세계화 현실 속에서 문화적 다양성을 다루는 우리 사회의 사회-문화적 태도를 비판적으로 검토하고, 이를 보다 더 성숙된 관점에서 다룰 수 있는 태도변경으로서의 상호문화적 관점의 필요성을 학문적으로 제시하고자 한다. 지라르는 한 인간이 타인을 모방하는 일련의 사회적 과정과 모방조절 메커니즘에서 문화가 비롯되었다고 본다. 문화가 곧 모방적 욕망을 관리하는 체계로서 기능한다는 것이다. 현상학적으로 본다면, 인간의 모방적 욕망의 정당성은 그 의식이 지향하는 바가 그 대상과 부합하는지의 여부에 따라 결정된다. 왜곡된 욕망은 선입견으로 인해 오염된 지향성 때문에 대상 본질을 마주할 수 없다. 그렇기에 본 연구는 지라르의 주장을 거울삼아 무조건적으로 다른 이들의 모방적 욕망을 복제하듯이 모방할 것이 아니라, 최대한 객관적인 시각으로, 곧 현상학적 판단중지를 통해서 그 욕망의 면면을 직면할 수 있는 판단능력이 필요함을 밝히고자 한다.
Abstract
This study aims not only to critically analyse our society’s socio-cultural attitudes dealing with cultural diversity in the globalized reality, but also to present academical necessity of the intercultural perspective as attitude change. Girard believes that culture originated from social processes of imitating others and from mechanism to control the degree of imitative behaviors. It can be said that culture functions as a system for controling imitative desires. Phenomenologically, the legitimacy of imitative desire is determined by whether the consciousness intentionally coincides with its object. But the distorted desire cannot correspond to the essence of its objects. Because intentionality of the consciousness is distorted by prejudiced Pre- Understandings. As a result, this study, focusing on Girard’s Mimesis Theory, aims to clarify that we need to enhance our judgment ability to face essential facets of desires through phenomenological Epoche, so rather than formally and superficially imitating others’ mimetic desires.
