Abstract
This study aims to monitor and analyze plant species sensitive or susceptible to climate change for bioclimatology research, with a main focus on endemic and rare plants, thereby establishing a long-term prediction and management system in biogeographical terms and devising a method to securely preserve biogenetic resources. Monitoring of indicator plants and analysis of their blooming dates showed that species (with the exception of Magnolia sieboldii) bloomed about two to three weeks later in 2010 than in 2009 and that their blossoms (except for those of Pinus densiflora and Magnolia sieboldii) fell around one to two weeks later in 2010 than in 2009. As for the dates their leaves burst into life, they had the most obvious differences among the data of analysis of their physiological cycle changes from the year 2009 to 2010. All the species excluding Pinus densiflora saw their leaves unfolding at similar dates in 2009 and 2010 or two to six weeks later in 2010 than in 2009. Regarding the dates when leaves became tinged with red, those of Lindera erythrocarpa and Larix leptolepis were earlier by one to four weeks in 2010 than in 2009, those of Prunus sargentii and Betula davurica were similar in 2009 and 2010, and those of Lindera obtusiloba, Rhododendron mucronulatum and Quercus serrata were later by one to six weeks in 2010 than in 2009. Leaves of Larix leptolepis, Salix gracilistyla and Betula costata started to fall one to three weeks earlier in 2010 than in 2009, those of Quercus serrata, Lindera obtusiloba and Prunus sargentii at similar dates in 2009 and 2010, and those of Magnolia sieboldii, Rhus trichocarpa and Acer pseudosieboldianum later by one to three weeks in 2010 than in 2009. In most species, the dates of leaves being tinged with red and of their starting to fall became later in 2010 than in 2009, but the differences were not large. This indicates that such a change results from each individual tree’s physiological characteristics rather than from climate change.
