초록
The purpose of this study is to explore spatio-temporal patterns of the onset and duration of climatological seasons across the Korean Peninsula. The climatological (1981-2010) daily mean temperature data from APHRODITE (Asian Precipitation - Highly-Resolved Observational Data Integration Towards Evaluation) are analyzed to extract the seasonal onset and seasonal duration data sets in each grid cell with the spatial resolution of 0.05°×0.05° across the Korean Peninsula. It is found that not everywhere has the four seasonal cycles (spring-summer-autumn-winter) across the Korean Peninsula. The Korean Peninsula is divided into 7 different climate regions according to the order of four seasonal durations. They include no winter (spring-summer-autumn cycle) type, which appears along the southern coastal region of Jeju Island. In contrast, no summer type (spring-autumn-winter cycle) is found over the highland areas of Mt. Halla, the Taebaek, and Sobaek mountain ranges in South Korea as well as over most of the Gaema Plateau region including Mt. Baekdu in North Korea. Various climate factors, including latitude, elevation, proximity to oceans and region-scale ocean currents around the Korean Peninsula, affect the onsets and durations of climatological seasons. Regression models demonstrate that winter duration (summer duration) shows an extending (reducing) pattern at the rate of 5.6days/100m (8.8days/100m) due to the elevation effect across the Korean Peninsula. It is also found that winter duration (summer duration) shows a lengthening (shrinking) tendency at the rate of 15.3days/1° (6.7days/1°) with the increase of latitude across the Korean Peninsula excluding the Gaema Plateau region.
