세르반테스의 『위대한 술탄 왕비』의 재평가: 바로크적 전복성을 중심으로

본 논문은 단순한 주제를 드러내는 코믹한 작품이라는 평가를 받고 있는 『위대한 술탄 왕비』에 내재한 다양한 바로크적인 전복성을 탐구하고, 이를 통해 이 작품의 근대성과 선진성을 밝혀내는 것을 목표로 한다. 이는 지금까지 제대로 된 가치를 인정받지 못한 『위대한 술탄 왕비』에 대한 재평가를 하는 계기가 될 것이다. 구조적인 차원에서 이 작품은 르네상스의 선적인 구조를 전복하여 치밀하게 짜인 곡선적인 구조를 조직하였다. 내용적인 차원에서는 환상과 실제의 경계가 허물어진 공간, 여성 영웅 주인공, 상호 인정하고 존중하는 타자관, 변신하는 불안한 정체성을 통해 드러난다. 이런 전복성을 통하여 세르반테스는 16, 17세기 스페인의 지배적인 이데올로기를 초월한 근대적인 시도를 하고 있으며, 이것이 바로 세르반테스와 『위대한 술탄 왕비』의 위대성이라고 볼 수 있다.
Abstract
This study investigates the baroque subversion of La gran sultana, which is regarded as a comic work that reveals a simple theme, and aims to reveal the modernity and excellence of this work. It will be a chance to reevaluate La gran sultana whose proper value has not been recognized until now. On a structural level, this work subverts the linear structure of the Renaissance and organized a curvilinear structure. On the content level, the subversion is revealed through the space where the boundary between fantasy and reality is broken down, the female hero protagonist, the respected others, and the transforming and anxious identity. Through this subversion, Cervantes is making modern attempts beyond the dominant ideology of Spain in the 16th and 17th centuries, and this is the greatness of this work and Cervantes.
