칠레의 사회 개혁 요구 시위(Estallido Social)는 그 규모와 강도 덕분에 큰 주목을 받았다. 많은 이들이 불평등의 심화와 같은 구조적 조건으로 칠레 사회 개혁 요구 시위의 성공을 설명하고자 하였다. 그러나 본 연구는 시위의 성공 요인을 이해하려면 시위에 참여한 사회운동 조직들의 자기매개 과정도 주목해야 한다고 주장한다. 이를 위해서 본 연구는 칠레 여성운동 조직의 자기매개 과정을 고찰하였다. 칠레 여성운동 조직의 소셜미디어, 퍼포먼스, 그리고 벽화를 활용한 자기매개 과정을 분석함으로써, 본 연구는 여성운동이 효과적인 자기매개로 목표하는 바를 달성함은 물론 다양한 사회 주체들의 요구를 연결하는 데에 이바지함으로써 사회 개혁 요구 시위 전체의 성공에도 기여했음을 밝혔다.
Abstract
The Estallido Social in Chile attracted significant attention due to the scale and intensity of the protests. While many have sought to understand the mechanisms behind this protest’s success by examining structural factors such as growing inequality, this study argues that greater focus should be placed to the self-mediation process of social movements organizations involved. Special emphasis is given to feminist movements and their self-mediation process. By analyzing how feminist movements utilized social media, performing arts as well as graffiti as tools of self-mediation, this study elucidates that an effective self-mediation process not only promotes the movements’ goal but also succeeds in bridging diverse social actors and their demands.
