Abstract
· Research topics: This study empirically analyzes the effects of physical environment satisfaction and service quality on customer loyalty in traditional markets, with the aim of deriving strategic implications for their revitalization. · Research background: Traditional markets are not merely spaces for product transactions, but cultural and social venues that reflect the lifestyle and communal bonds of local communities. However, the expansion of large retail chains and the rise of online shopping have weakened the competitiveness of traditional markets, and existing policy efforts have shown limited effectiveness. In particular, forming customer loyalty—beyond encouraging repeat visits—has emerged as a crucial task for revitalizing these markets. · Differences from prior research: While previous studies have primarily focused on customer satisfaction or revisit intentions in analyzing the physical environment and service quality of traditional markets, this study simultaneously examines the effects of both factors on customer loyalty. By doing so, it offers a more long-term and strategic perspective on revitalizing traditional markets. · Research method: A survey was conducted with visitors to traditional markets in Jecheon, Chungcheongbuk-do, and the data were analyzed using SPSS 27.0 through descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis. · Research results: Both physical environment and service quality had statistically significant effects on customer loyalty, with the effect of physical environment (β = .66) being greater than that of service quality (β = .20). · Contribution points and expected effects: This study helps address a theoretical gap by investigating the importance of physical environment and service quality in traditional markets from the perspective of customer loyalty. In particular, the finding that the physical environment has a greater impact than service quality provides meaningful policy implications for setting priorities in revitalization strategies for traditional markets.
