Abstract

· Research topics : This study identifies the caregiving burden experienced by families of individuals with mental disorders and analyzes their needs for mental health and welfare services. · Background : In the context of insufficient mental health infrastructure, families of people with mental disorders have become the primary caregivers, experiencing significant psychological and economic burdens. As community-based mental health policies expand, it is critical to understand the service needs of persons with mental disorders from the perspective of their families. This will help ensure that such policies do not increase the burden on families, but rather promote independent living for people with mental disorders. · Difference from Previous Studies : Whereas most previous research has focused exclusively on mental health services, the present study distinguishes itself by identifying welfare service needs that support community-based independent living for people with mental disorders. · Research Method : This quantitative study used a survey methodology targeting 52 family members of people with mental disorders in C province. Data were collected on sociodemographic characteristics, levels of caregiving burden, mental health service needs, and welfare service needs. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, paired t-tests, the Borich Needs Assessment Model, and the Locus for Focus Model to determine priorities among service needs. · Results:Family members of individuals with mental disorders reported a high demand for services such as vocational support, income security, and mental health support. · Contribution and Expected Effects By quantitatively analyzing the mental health and welfare service needs of families in C province, this study provides foundational data to inform the development of family-centered mental health and welfare policies in the future.
