Abstract
· Research topics: This study investigated the relationship between older adults' experiences of discrimination and depression, analyzing the multiple mediating effects of emotional, physical, instrumental, and economic family support. · Research background: Given that older adult depression is a serious social problem and discrimination is a critical risk factor, this study aimed to clarify the mediating pathways of various family support subtypes. · Differences from prior research: Unlike previous studies focusing on prevalence, this research specifically examined how family support subtypes mediate the discrimination-depression link, offering concrete practical and policy directions. · Research method: SPSS PROCESS Macro 4.0 was utilized to analyze the multiple mediating effects of family support subtypes. · Research results: Emotional, physical, and economic support demonstrated partial mediating effects on the relationship between older adults' experiences of discrimination and depression. · Contribution points and expected effects: By disaggregating family support into distinct subtypes and confirming its dual positive/negative effects, this study enhances understanding and provides valuable insights for mental health strategies for older adults.
