Origination and rhetoric word formation of new words in modern Chinese

The aspect of modern China has been completed since the great wave of social renovation initiated by ‘the social reform and opening-up policy’ in 1978, thereafter new words came into being reflecting the social changes. The new words in this time, distinguished as new times, spreaded into the continent of China mainly via southern economic centers, and prevailed in all China corresponding to a trend of language users preferring freshness. The mass production and the wide use of the new words are due to the excellent forming ability of Chinese characters as well as the times and social background. In this paper, the process of the important rhetoric word formation (metaphor, metonymy, parody and acronym), and user phycology and the effects on it were investigated because of its outstanding functioning compared to other word formations.
