晦堂 張錫英이 쓴 『黑山錄』의 서술방식과 가치

Abstract

This paper was conceived to introduce Heuksanrok by Jang Seok-yeong to the academic circles for the first time. His journal claims considerably important value as a historical material for including the Parisian version of Hoidangbon, which used to be deemed to exist no longer, and holds great potential of utilization in the field of independence movement researches for recording the process of his being arrested, put in jail, and released for his involved in the independence movement in details. Although the journal basically takes the format of prose, the author inserts some verse to further enhance emotions. Even though it is a journal, it strongly doubles as his memoirs based on his memory and accordingly achieves the completeness of work in the organization of "introduction-main body-conclusion." Introduced in the journal, the Parisian version of Hoidangbon maintains an extreme, high, and noble attitude from the beginning to the end, which is a reason for it being disqualified as a diplomatic document and being left out of the final selection. When he wrote the journal, Jang Seok-yeong set up a base in Seongju and participated in the independence movement, which explains why the independence movement of the Seongju people was particularly highlighted in his journal. Since the study first introduced the journal to the academic world, follow-up study should be more meticulous and elaborate by comparison with the findings of researches on other Parisian versions.
