동계 조형도 시에 나타난 ‘물’에 대하여

Abstract

This paper presents the first investigation into the poetic world of Donggye Jo Hyeong-do(1567-1637). It paid special attention to "water" because the poet expressed his poetic spirit most intensively through water. Water is also a means to examine his poetic world effectively in terms of methodology. In his works of poetic literature, water takes various patterns including water in a beautiful landscape, water with a taste for the arts, water as a means of self-examination, and water combined with the reality of history. Those patterns each reflect his lyrical, entertainment, Neo-Confucian, and realist aspects. His poetic spirit was structured between Ganghorak and Myodangwoo. He enjoyed his taste for the arts as a Shiju, living in beautiful Gangho or understood Neo-Confucian nature through nature based on Ganghorak. He fought as a member of army raised in the cause of justice or commander in Japanese Invasion of Korea in 1592 and First and Second Manchu invasion of Korea and distinguished himself in the combats based on Myodangwoo. "Sachinyeongun," which he wrote and put up on Donggyejeong, shows that his poetic spirit concluded as Myodangwoo in Ganghorak, thus deserving some attention.
