Abstract

This study analyzes the economic and employment impacts resulting from the activation of distributed generation (DG) and the attraction of RE100-specialized industrial complexes in Jeonnam, a region facing challenges such as population decline and renewable energy curtailment. We develop a scenario featuring discounted electricity rates enabled by DG activation, and quantitatively evaluate its effects using the TERM-KOREA (Jeonnam) regional Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) model. Results indicate that reducing electricity prices through DG activation significantly enhances Jeonnam’s regional GDP and lowers the overall price level. Industries characterized by high electricity cost shares experience notable output growth, subsequently driving increased demand for capital and labor. These impacts are especially pronounced in renewable energy-intensive industries seeking RE100 compliance. Jeonnam experiences greater increases in capital utilization and employment relative to other regions. These findings highlight that electricity pricing policies linked to DG expansion, when strategically combined with initiatives to attract RE100 industrial complexes, can serve as effective catalysts for regional economic revitalization and employment growth.
