서구중심주의 비판을 위한 대안적 방법론 모색: 탈식민주의에 대한 마르크스주의적 비판

본 논문은 서구중심주의 극복을 위한 대안적 담론전략으로서 탈식민주의의 가능성과 한계를 마르크스주의적 관점에서 비판적으로 검토하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 마르크스주의에 서구중심주의적 편향성이 내재할 수밖에 없다는 탈식민주의적 주장은 과도한 일반화의 오류를 범하고 있기 때문이다. 탈식민주의가 근거하는 탈구조주의와 포스트모더니즘의 인식론적 상대주의는 진정한 탈식민의 방향성을 제시하지 못하며, 특히 해방된 피식민 지역의 경제적 자립이라는 중요한 당면 과제의해결에 무능하다. 따라서 서구중심주의 극복을 위한 대안적 방법론 구축을 목적으로 하는 본 논문에서는 식민지문제와 동양사회에 관한 마르크스의 원래의 의도를기준으로, 탈식민주의 등 다양한 입장에서 제기되는 마르크스주의의 서구중심주의적 경향성을 반성적으로 재검토할 필요가 있다고 본다. 즉 마르크스주의 전통 속에서 많은 형태의 경제결정론적 오류나 진화론적 편향들이 존재했음을 반성하고, 구조와 실천의 변증법적 긴장에 기초한 마르크스 사상으로 돌아감으로써 자본의 이데올로기적 장치인 서구중심주에 대한 비판과 극복의 해답을 추구해야 할 것이다.
Abstract
This paper aims to critically review the potential and limitation of postcolonialism as an alternative discursive strategy for overcoming eurocentrism from a Marxist perspective. The starting point is to acknowledge that the postcolonial assert that eurocentrism is inherent in Marxism commit a fault of excessive generalization. The epistemological relativism of the poststructuralism and postmodernism which the postcolonialism is based on fails in making a correct direction of the postcoloniality. Especially, it is incompetent at settling the task of economical independence that is the most important within the emancipated ex-colonial nations. Thus, this paper tries to re-examine the Eurocentric tendencies of Marxism found in Marx’s original interpretation on the colony and orient societies by postcolonialists. As a result, the paper asserts that it is important to reflect that Marxism has been infected with economic determinism and various evolutionary propensities and to seek for the solution that can criticize and overcome eurocentrism which is nothing more than an ideological apparatus of capital by returning Marx’s ideas based on the dialectic tension between structure and practice.
