독일이데올로기 문헌 논쟁사와 MEGA 2 I-5 출판의 의미

마르크스와 엥겔스 전체 저작 중에서 문헌사적으로나 내용상으로 가장 논란이많은 ‘독일이데올로기 초고’가 2017년에 MEGA 2 I-5로 최종 편집돼서 출판됐다. MEGA 2 I-5는 ‘독일이데올로기 초고’를 둘러싼 지금까지의 문헌학적 논쟁을 최종적으로 정리했다. MEGA 2 I-5는 1993년 MEGA 편집지침에 따라서 ‘독일이데올로기초고’를 완성된 하나의 저작이 아니라, 마르크스와 엥겔스 텍스트 원문에 충실하게재현하는 것을 목적으로 했다. 따라서 MEGA 2 I-5는 ‘독일이데올로기 초고’를 『독일이데올로기』라는 하나의 저작으로 재구성하지 않았다. 오히려 MEGA 2 I-5는 ‘독일이데올로기 초고’가 ≪독일이데올로기≫라는 계간지용 원고들이며, 이에 따라서 마르크스와 엥겔스의 텍스트 원문들을 배열했다. 그러나 MEGA 2 I-5처럼 ‘독일이데올로기 초고’가 계간지용 원고라고 할지라도, 마르크스와 엥겔스가 염두에 둔 계간지의 제목, 계간지 원고들의 텍스트 배열이 명확하지 않다는 점은 문헌학적 한계로남아 있다.
Abstract
In 2017, the new edition of Volume Ⅰ, Section 5 of Marx’ and Engels’ Collected Works (MEGA² 1.5) was finally published. With its publication, it seemed like the most controversial aspects of authorship of manuscripts and certain text passages, the reproduction of the originally intended array of manuscripts, and the original intentions of publication had come to a conclusion. According to MEGA² Editorial Guidelines of 1993, Marx’ and Engels’ original manuscripts of “The German Ideology” in Volume I, Section 5 are to be seen as a compilation intended to be published piece by piece in a quarterly journal, rather than as a monograph. Even though the editors of MEGA² 1.5 reconstructed the collection of manuscripts faithfully in accordance with philological and historical evidence, to some extent we can assume limitations of authenticity. Since the editors had to decide on the chronological order of appearance and authorship of certain manuscripts based on guesswork, an alternative textual organization could be possible. For that reason, the creatorship of certain ideas or philosophical terminology is not always traceable, and the manipulation of text fragments by contemporary authors within the circle of Marx’ and Engels’ colleagues remains possible. The present paper summarizes the main points of the ongoing philological debate about MEGA² 1.5 and surveys the philological history of the development of “The German Ideology”, showing its significance for research in South Korea.
