‘정치경제학 비판’의 “변증법적 방법의 한계”에 관한 연구

마르크스가 ‘정치경제학 비판’을 서술하면서 적용한 변증법적 방법에 “한계”가 있다는 인식은 그다지 주목받지 못했던 주제이다. 하지만 이 문제의식은 『정치경제학비판 요강』(1857/58)에서부터 『정치경제학 비판을 위하여』(1859)를 거쳐 『자본론』(1867)에 이르는 ‘정치경제학 비판’의 서술에서 마르크스가 일관되게 유념했던과제였다. 주로 『자본론』의 처음 3개 장의 서술방법을 둘러싼 논란에서 복수의 연구자들은 헤겔의 변증법을 기준으로 삼아 ‘한계’를 변증법적 방법의 ‘포기’ 또는 ‘숨기기’로 해석하는 오류를 범한 데 반해, 일부 학자는 변증법적 방법을 구제하려는 의도에도 불구하고 특히 『자본론』의 서술구조와 서술방법에 대한 불충분한 이해로 인하여 구제에 성공하지 못하고 있다. 이 글에서는 변증법적, 논리적 방법의 한계는 역사적 방법의 보완적인 적용을 통해서만 극복할 수 있으며, 그렇게 함으로써만 ‘정치경제학 비판’ 전체 서술구조가 완결성에 접근할 수 있음을 보이고자 했다. 아울러 마르크스에게서 ‘정치경제학 비판의 형성사’가 증명하듯이 연구과정과 서술과정은 형식적으로만 구분될 수 있을 뿐이지 현실에서는 끊임없이 상호작용하는 학문 발전과정으로 이해되어야 한다. 남은 과제는 변증법적 방법의 ‘한계’의 개념적 이해를 배경으로 ‘정치경제학 비판’의 서술구조를 규명하는 것이다.
Abstract
Marx’s recognition that there are “limits” to the dialectical method he applied in his presenting the Critique of Political Economy has not received much attention. However, it is a problem that Marx was consistently mindful of in its presentation, from the ‘Grundrisse’: Foundations of the Critique of Political Economy (1857/58), through ‘For the Critique of Political Economy’ (1859), to ‘Capital’ (1867). In the controversy over the presentation method of the first three chapters of ‘Capital’, a few scholars have taken Hegel’s dialectic as a reference point and made the error of interpreting the dialectical method’s limits as an “abandonment” or its being deliberately hidden. Others have attempted to rescue it unsuccessfully due to an insufficient understanding of Capital’s presentation structure and method. This article aims to show that the “limits” of the dialectical-logical method can only be overcome through the complementary application of the historical method, and only in this way can the entire presentation structure of the Critique of Political Economy can approach completeness. Furthermore, as the shaping history of the Critique of Political Economy demonstrates, for Marx, the processes of research and presentation can only be formally distinguished; they must be understood as a constantly interacting process of academic development in practice. The remaining task is to identify the entire presentation structure of the Critique of Political Economy against the backdrop of the conceptual understanding of its “limits”.
