정운영은 노동시간의 화폐적 표현 개념의 소개와 확산, 잉여가치율 및 이윤율 등의 마르크스 비율에 관한 실증연구로 1980∼1990년대 한국의 마르크스 경제학 교육과 연구에 중요한 영향을 미쳤다. 그럼에도 상품과 추상노동에 대한 독특한 이해, 가치의 생산과 결정에 대한 특유의 구분 등은 논란의 여지가 많다. 이 글은 정운영의노동가치이론 연구를 비판적으로 소개하고자 한다. 먼저 2절에서는 수식을 이용하여 정운영의 노동가치 해석을 정리해본다. 3절에서는 정운영의 노동가치이론 연구에서 논쟁점을 검토한다. 마지막으로 4절에서는 총괄적인 평가를 내린다.
Abstract
Joseph W. Chung exerted a significant influence on Marxian economics education and research in South Korea during the 1980s and 1990s, notably through disseminating the concept of the monetary expression of labor time, as well as conducting empirical research on Marxian ratios such as the rate of surplus value and the rate of profit. Nevertheless, his unique interpretation of commodities and abstract labor, along with his unconventional distinction between the determination and production of value, remains highly contentious. This paper aims to critically assess Joseph W. Chung’s research on the labor theory of value. Section 2 summarizes his understanding of the theory in mathematical terms. Section 3 discusses the controversial issues in his interpretation. Finally, an overall evaluation of his theory is presented in the last section.
