Abstract
Chogye Jeong family of Gangdong Village in Geo chang is a descendant of Jeong Seup-in(鄭習仁), who grew up as the Emerging Nobility(新興士大夫) in the late Goryeo(高麗) Dynasty. and one of the family's representatives is Jeong On. He accepted the study of Toegye(退溪) and Nammyeong(南冥) by learning from Jo Mok, Jeong In-hong, Jeong Gu, and Lee Won-ik. Also, he was the owner of a strong character who even attempted suicide when King Injo(仁祖) surrendered to the Qing(淸) during the Manchu Invasion of Korea. For this reason, after Jeong On's death, all scholars, regardless of the Nam In(南人) or No Ron(老論) at that time, praised his righteous spirit. The descendants of Jeong on inherited his studies as the family's, while continuing to interact with people from the Nammyeong and Toegye schools, and occasionally formed a close bond by marriage. In particular, Jeong Jung-won lived in the Ahn ueum area in the late 17th century, and despite the growing power of Seo In(西人) faction, he was associated with Lim Dong-hyuk and Heo Ho, who were descendants of the Nammyeong School and had Nam In’s color. In his later years, he moved to Sun-heung area and interacted with Lee Hyun-il' disciples, and served as the president of Sosu Seowon(紹修書院) and Dosan Seowon(陶山書院). Obviously, his status within the Toegye school of Gyeongsangjwa-do(慶尙左道) was truly high. For this reason, the news that his second son, Jeong Hee-ryang, participated in the rebellion of Musin(武臣) came as a great shock to the society of Confucian scholars at that time. Eventually, this family was destroyed, and all of Jeong Hee-ryang's assets were confiscated. and the land of the descendants was also confiscated, and in the future, these families developed the Wito(位土) Return Movement. Although his family is a rebel family, King Yeongjo(英祖) allowed the "Bong Sa Son(奉祀孫)" of these families in consideration of Jeong On's status, while also allowing them to hire government posts. As a result, when the family was allowed to enter government posts, direct descendants of Jeong On and Confucian scholars in the An-eum area requested the return of Wito, which was unfairly confiscated. and the land was finally returned in 1819. However, since then, these families have again been in conflict with Yongcheonjeongsa(龍泉精舍) over the ownership of Wito and the content of the "Dongye Sunsaeng Yeonbo(桐溪先生年譜)". This was a problem related to the hegemony control of this village. Since Jeong Jong-pil, a descendant of the Jeong family at the time, lived in Hamchang, Sangju, so people in Yongcheonjeongsa considered that they have academic legitimacy of Jeong On. On the other hand, Jeong's immediate descendants resolved the conflict with the help of No Ron's ruling forces, although they did not live in the An-ui area. In conclusion, the Jeong family, which had been aiming for the Nam In faction until the Jeong Jeong-won era, was able to regain the power of the family with the help of the Noron after the rebellion case.
