Abstract
This study aims to provide an overview of the researches that have explored nutrition in food such as vitamins and minerals that affect bone density in women. Research journals published from 1994 to 2014 were selected through multiple sources including PubMed, Scopus and Science Direct. They were studied to find consistent or contrasting views of nutrition. The theme of nutrition were vitamins, minerals or foods and each of them were investigated its correlation of bone density. These themes were discussed throughout discussion. The discussion revealed the effects of vitamins (B, C, D, and K), minerals (calcium, magnesium) and foods (protein, isoflavone, alcohol, coffee, and cola) on bone health and their mechanisms to help the general public to understand them easily. Although many medications are prescribed to treat osteoporosis, people are still interested in nutrition related to bone health. Though this paper, we expect to give appropriate dietary counseling for women with low bone density and to improve their bone health eventually.
