Abstract
Recently, as social discussions on deinstitutionalization and the aging of the disabled population have increased in the field of social welfare for the disabled, there has been more increasing policy and academic interest in quarantee of rights and establishing a community-based support system for people with developmental disabilities, such as intellectual disabilities, who have been excluded from disability policies. Accordingly, this study utilized the Photovoice Method, a participatory action research method, to conduct qualitative research with seven women with intellectual disabilities and researchers to look into the lives of the parties, needs in the community and the context surrounding them. The purpose of this study is to explore the community life and living reality of women with intellectual disabilities from the perspective and language of women with intellectual disabilities, and to seek social and academic tasks to support community-based life based on this. Data collection was conducted for approximately five months from December 2023 to April 2024. The collected data was analyzed using the Participatory Data Analysis (PDA), and five themes were derived: ‘Limited Relationship: Alienation and My people’, ‘Cognitive Challenge; ‘Learning and Growth’, ‘Sharing and Experiencing Cultural Landscapes together, it’s fun!’, ‘Dreams and Independence, I’m worried!’, ‘Health, Early Aging, and Anxiety’. These results are significant because they serve as basic data for policy interventions for women with intellectual disabilities to continue living in the community and contribute to an extension of the feminist discussion.
