미중갈등과 한중관계 분석(2011-2020): GDELT 빅데이터 기반 시계열 분석

미중 간의 갈등이 한중관계에는 어떠한 영향을 미쳤을까? 본 연구는 인공지능을 활용하여 글로벌 이벤트 기사들을 수집한 GDELT라는 시계열 자료를 이용해 트럼프 집권 시기(2016년~2020년)를 포함한 10년간(2011년~2020년)의 빅데이터 자료를 분석하여 미중 간의 갈등 시기 동안 한중 관련 기사수의 변화량을 살펴보고, 또한 기사에서 느껴지는 한중관계의 감정 지수를 분석하였다. 본 연구에서는 미중갈등이 한중관계에 의미 있는 인과관계가 있는지에 대한 분석은 하지 않았으며 양국 간 기사 수와 감정 지수의 변화량을 통계적으로 제공하는 데 초점을 두었다. 분석결과 2017년까지 지속해서 증가하던 한중 관련 기사 수가 2018년부터 대폭 감소하였고, 한중관계 감정 지수는 2011년부터 지속적으로 하락하는 추세를 보이며 사드 배치 관련 논란이 많았던 2016년과 2017년에 감정 지수가 특히나 좋지 않았다. 흥미로운 점은 미중 간 무역 갈등이 최고조에 이른 2018년에는 한중간 감정 지수가 전년도에 비해 상승했다는 점이다. 미중 무역 갈등이 한중관계에도 좋지 않은 영향을 끼치지만, 한국이 미국과 중국의 중간에서 이익을 얻는 부분도 있어 상승했을 수도 있고 2018년 북중, 남북, 북미정상회담으로 훈풍을 돌게 했던 한반도 정세가 한중간 감정 지수에 영향을 줬을 가능성도 있다. 본 연구는 한국 내 반중 정서가 심화되고 있는 상황에서 인간의 개입 없이 인공지능기반 빅데이터를 토대로 한중관계의 심리 측면을 실증적으로 분석한 실험적 연구로서 의미를 갖는다. 컴퓨터가 수집하고 인식하는 정보를 통계적으로 이용하였기 때문에 객관성을 보장받을 수 있을 것이며, 연구 결과는 국가 간 또는 국가 이외의 행위자 간 갈등과 분쟁을 분석하려는 유사한 연구 분야에 응용될 수 있을 것이다.
Abstract
How has the US-China conflict affected the Korea-China relations? This study analyzes big data for 10 years, including the Trump administration, using time series data called GDELT, which collects global event articles using artificial intelligence, and examines the changes in the quantity of the number of articles related to Korea and China during the period of conflict between the US and China. In addition, the emotional index of Korea-China relations experienced in the article was analyzed. As a result of the analysis, the number of articles related to Korea and China, which had been continuously increasing until 2017, decreased significantly from 2018, and the sentiment index for Korea-China relations showed a downward trend. Interestingly, in 2018 and 2019, when the U.S.-China trade war was in full swing, it was detected that the sentiment index between the two countries slightly increased. This study is meaningful as an experimental study that empirically analyzes the psychological aspects of Korea-China relations based on artificial intelligence-based big data without human intervention. Objectivity is guaranteed since both the collection and analysis are carried out by the computer, and the research results can be referenced in similar research fields to analyze conflicts and disputes between countries or between actors other than countries.
