에드 혹 네트워크는 네트워크 기반 구조가 없는 환경에서 이동하는 호스트들로만 구성되는 무선 이동 네트워크이다. 제약과 예측이 불가능한 이동성과 노드의 프로세싱 및 파워 제약으로 인해 에드 혹 네트워크에서의 라우팅 문제는 고정 네트워크와는 또 다른 고려가 필요하다. 에드 혹 네트워크가 물리적으로 브로드캐스트 네트워크이라는 특성과 활용도가 높을 것으로 예상하는 응용들의 특성으로 인해 에드 혹 네트워크에 대해서는 유니캐스트라우팅과는 별도로 멀티캐스트 라우팅 프로토콜에 대한 연구가 이루어져 왔다. 본 논문에서는 지금까지 문헌에 제안되어 온 주요한 에드 혹 네트워크 멀티캐스트 라우팅 프로토콜들을 살펴보고, 그 특성을 분석하며 이에 대한 향후 연구 방향을 제시하였다.
Abstract
An ad hoc network is a collection of wireless mobile hosts, which form a temporary network without relying on the existing network infrastructure. The distinguishing features of an ad hoc network are the unlimited mobility and the limited power and processing capability of the participating hosts. These features make a routing in ad hoc network a particularly challenging problem. Especially, the inherent broadcasting capability of an ad hoc network as well as the multi-point communication requirement of common applications has lead to an extensive research on multicast routing protocols for an ad hoc network. In this article, we investigate the multicast routing protocols proposed in the recent literatures and suggest some future research directions.
