Abstract

Image safety is one of essential requirements to ensure the safe provision of image and video service. In particular, concerns about visual fatigue or visual discomfort in watching stereoscopic three-dimensional (3D)television bring us important technical issues to be solved. This paper provides an overview of visual discomfort associated with stereoscopic 3D video. We first summarize content factors of stereoscopic 3D video that are able to induce visual discomfort. We introduce measurement methods of visual discomfort and related works. In addition, we briefly summarize and discuss visual comfort assessment metric that automatically predict the degree of visual comfort of stereoscopic 3D videos.
