본 연구는 통제적이고 일방적인 의사소통 문제를 가진 아버지와의 갈등으로 인해 낮은 학습동기를 보이는 사춘기 자녀의 상담을 어머니가 의뢰한 사례이다. 본 연구에서는 가족 구성원 간 역기능적인 의사소통의 문제로 인하여 부적응 행동을 보이는 사춘기 자녀를 둔 가족에 대한 가족치료의 효과를 제시하고자 하며 특히 사춘기 자녀들과 보다 원활하게 소통 할 수 있는 효과적이고 새로운 의사소통 방식에 대한 자료를 제공함으로써 많은 가족들이 사춘기 자녀로 인해 증가된 가족갈등을 슬기롭게 대처해 나갈 수 있도록 돕 고자 한다. 본 연구는 질적분석방법 중 대화내용 분석을 하였고 대화내용의 서술과 탐구 분석의 효과를 보여주기 위한 효과 매트릭스(Effect Matrix)와 시간 변화에 따른 매타 매트릭스(Time-ordered Meta Matrix)를 사용하였다. 동시에 가족치료의 변화과정과 관련하여서 초이론적 모델을 분석의 틀로 활용함으로써 내담 자 가족이 변화하는데 있어 5가지의 단계에 따른 변화의 내용과 상담의 효과를 함께 분석하였다. 가족치 료가 진행됨에 따라 가족구성원들은 지금까지 시도해왔던 역기능적 의사소통 방식이 있었음을 인식하게 되었고 지금까지 사용해보지 않았던 새로운 의사소통 방식을 시도하게 되자 가족구성원 간의 변화가 일어 났고 궁극적으로 낮은 학습동기를 보이는 아들의 문제가 해결될 수 있었다. 청소년의 부적응 문제를 해결 하기 위해서는 부모의 변화가 우선시 되어야 한다는 치료자의 관점에 따라 아버지가 인식단계로 전환되기 시작하자 자녀들 역시 변화하기 시작했다. 즉, 가족구성원 중 어느 사람이 문제 해결을 위하여 자신이 변 화해야 될 필요성에 대해 인식하기 시작하면서 다른 가족구성원들의 변화를 유도하게 되고 이는 가족 전 체에 대한 변화를 야기시킬 수 있음을 나타내고 있다.
Abstract
This case study describes the process of family therapy with a complaining problem of a son's low motivation on school work due to a conflict between the son and his father. Adopting qualitative research method, (a)the change process was explored and examined in order to assess the effectiveness of MRI model, (b) the change process, based on Prochaska and Norcross's transtheoretical model, among family members was observed, (c) it was attempted to find the therapist's intervention techniques, which promote the resolution of conflicts between the father and the son, and (d) it was attempted to find the process of change on the communication style and family relationships through the therapy. As the therapy progressed, the family became aware of their dysfunctional communication patterns, learned new communication skills, showed sings of changes in family dynamics, and accordingly, the son's motivation on school work had increased. Specifically, once the father accepted the necessity to change his own communication style, whole family dynamics were started to transform. This study shows how a family member's initiation to change his/her communication style may affect whole family dynamics. Implications to working with families with adolescent sons and daughters are discussed.
