PISA 성취수준 향상에 미치는 교육맥락변인의 차별적 효과 분석

본 연구는 PISA 2012 한국자료를 활용하여 성취수준에 따라 교육맥락변인이 미치는 영향력이 다르게 작용하는가를 분석하기 위해 수행되었다. 특히 각 영역(수학, 읽기, 과학)의 한 단계 높은 성취수준으로 향상하는 데 유의한 영향을 미치는 요인들을 파악하고, 주요 요인들이 성취수준별로 상이한가를 비교하고자 2수준의 일반화위계선형모형을 적용하였다. 분석 결과, 교육맥락변인의 영향은 영역과 학생의 성취수준에 따라 차별적임을 확인하였다. 2수준 미만의 학생들에게는 모든 영역의 성취수준 향상에 학교 학습에 대한 태도, 문제해결에 대한 개방성, 부모의 교육기대수준, 결석 또는 결과, 교과 외 창의적 활동 등이 영향을 주는 것으로 분석되었다. 이 중에서 학교 학습에 대한 태도와 문제해결에 대한 개방성은 5수준 이상의 학생의 성취수준 향상에 영향을 주지만, 부모의 교육기대 수준, 결석 또는 결과, 교과 외 창의적 활동 등은 상위수준 학생에게는 유의한 영향을 미치지 않았다. 이는 하위수준 학생을 위한 학습 지원에 있어서 상위수준과 다른 차별적 접근 방법이 필요하다는 것을 시사한다.
Abstract
Purpose: This study was conducted to analyze whether educational contextual variables have differential effects on achievement levels in mathematics, reading, and science. Design/methodology/data/approach: PISA 2012 data for Korea was analyzed using a 2-level HGLM (Hierarchical Generalized Linear Model). This study investigated the factors that significantly affect the enhancement of achievement levels and produced a comparison of how the main factors differ in accordance with the level of academic achievement. Findings/Results: The effects of educational contextual variables differ depending on the subjects and the achievement levels of Korean students. For students below level 2, a number of factors are associated with the improvement of achievement levels including: the student’s attitude towards learning; the student’s openness to problem solving; parental perceptions of school quality, absences, and outcomes; and involvement in creative extra-curricular activities. Of these factors, only the student’s attitude towards school and the student’s openness to problem solving significantly affect on level 4 students to be top performers. Value: Based this analysis of PISA 2012 data, this study suggests alternative education policies which consider learner diversity across achievement levels and policies that can balance evaluative elements and level-differentiated educational supports.
