이 연구는 고등학교에서 학생들에게 제공하는 진로 활동의 방향을 탐색하기 위하여 현재 서울 지역의 고등학교가 제공하는 진로 활동과 고등학생들이 실제 경험하고 만족하는 진로 활동을 진단하였다. 이를 위하여 서울교육종단연구 2010의 초등학교 코호트의 8차년도 학교 및 학생 데이터를 활용하여 빈도분석, 요인분석 및 다중회귀분석을 실시하였다. 연구 결과, 우선 학교에서 제공하는 진로 활동은 담임 및 진로담당 교사의 지도가 가장 많이 운영되고 있었고, 학부모 대상 진로교육과 선배, 직업인의 멘토링이 높은 비중을 차지하고 있었다. 한편 가장 많은 수의 학생들은 자신들이 경험한 진로 활동 중 사교육 종사자와의 상담이 도움이 된다고 인식하고 있으며 학과 체험 활동이나 상급학교 방문 및 입시설명회 등이 담임교사나 진로담당교사의 지도 보다 더 도움이 된다고 인식하고 있어 실제 학교에서 제공하는 진로 활동이 학생들의 경험 및 각 활동의 도움 수준에 대한 인식과는 거리가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 학교의 진로 진학 활동 제공은 고등학교의 특성에 따라 일부 차이가 있었으며 학생의 진로 활동 경험 역시 학교의 특성 및 개인 배경 특성에 따라 일부 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 연구 결과를 바탕으로 우리나라 고등학교의 진로 활동이 나아가야 할 방향을 제시하였다.
Abstract
Purpose: This study examined the types and the frequencies of career-related activities offered by college-bound high schools in Seoul. We also juxtaposed students' experiences of these activities and examined the extent to which students were satisfied with each of the career-related activities. Design/methodology/data/approach: Using the data from the Seoul Education Longitudinal Study 2010, we firstly conducted descriptive analysis to examine the frequencies of career-related activities implemented at college-bound high schools in Seoul. We conducted a principal component analysis to identify primary patterns of career-related activities. With types of career-related activities identified, multiple regression analyses were conducted to find, if any, school or individual factors associated with the types of career-related activities implemented by schools or experienced by students. Findings/ Results: The results showed that career-related activities frequently adopted by schools were based on teacher resources. A majority of high schools in Seoul utilized career counseling teachers or homeroom teachers as a mainstay of school career counseling and education. Students also reported career counseling via teachers as the most frequently experienced forms of career education. However, in terms of the usefulness of career-related activities, students reported that information or advice earned from private tutors was more helpful. Values: These results may indicate the discrepancies between what schools provided and what students needed. Educational and policy implications were discussed based on these and other findings.
