대학생들의 학업중단 및 학교이동에 대한 탐색적 분석 : 대학선택요인과 대학생활 만족도의 영향

이 연구는 한국교육고용패널(KEEP) 데이터의 기준연도 자료와 1차, 2차 추수조사 자료를 이용하여 우리나라 대학생들의 학업 중단 및 이동 실태를 파악하고, 관련 변인들의 영향력을 탐색하고자 하였다. 특히 대학 진학 당시 그 대학을 선택하게 된 요인과 대학 경험 수준의 영향력을 분석하고자 하였다. 분석 결과, 4년제 대학 학생이고 가구 소득이 높을수록, 그리고 대학생활 만족도가 낮을수록 재수나 편입학 계획을 가질 가능성이 높았다. 실제 다른 대학으로의 이동은 재수나 편입 계획이 있고 대학생활 만족도가 낮은 학생들에게서 좀 더 많이 나타났다. 학업 중단의 가능성은 여학생보다는 남학생들에게서, 일반계 졸업생 보다는 실업계 졸업생에게서, 4년제 대학 진학자보다는 전문대학 진학자들에게서, 그리고 대학생활 만족도가 낮은 학생들에게서 높게 나타났다. 대학생활 만족도에 비해서 대학선택 요인은 학교 이동 계획, 그리고 실제 학업 중단 및 학교 이동에 별다른 영향을 미치지 못하였다. 이러한 분석 결과는 학생들의 불필요한 학업 중단과 이동을 방지하기 위해서 대학 교육에서도 학생들의 만족도를 높여 주고자 하는 노력이 필요하다는 점을 시사한다.
Abstract
This article explores the process of withdrawal and transfer of Korean college students. Also, it investigates the influence of relevant factors on that process in the context of higher education. The data are used from the Korea Education and Employment Panel data(KEEP). The results are reported as follows. A lot of students will plan for transfer to other universities and colleges, and actually they conducted it within one year. The students who enrolled 4-year university and whose parents have a high level of education and income have higher probability of having a plan for transfer to other institution. The students enrolled 2-year college, on the other hand, have higher probability of dropout than those of 4-year college. In particular, female students who have graduated from vocational high school have higher probability of dropout. The satisfaction with the college life including educational quality makes students stay at their first institution. These results imply that more appropriate programs for career counseling is needed in high school and the educational program of college and university should be improved to satisfy their students.
