청소년의 스마트폰 사용에 대한 인식연구 - 중･고생 이용자의 FGI를 중심으로 -

최근 스마트폰 사용이 중･고생 사이에서도 급증하면서 스마트폰 사용과 관련된 중독 문제가 사회적 이슈로 떠오르기 시작하였다. 스마트폰과 관련된 연구는 현재 걸음마 단계로 그 마저도 스마트폰 중독에 지나치게 초점화 되어 있어 일반 사용자들의 인식과 관련된 경험적 연구가 부족하며, 연구 대상자도 스마트폰 주사용 층인 성인에 집중되어 있어 미디어 중독에 상대적으로 취약한 청소년들에 대한 연구가 부족하다. 이에 본 연구에서는 중학생, 고등학생 5그룹을 대상으로 포커스그룹 인터뷰를 진행하였고, 연구자 4인과 감수자 1명이 자료 분석에 참여하여 스마트폰 사용과 관련된 경험과 조절에 대한 인식을 분석하였다. 그 결과 ‘스마트폰의 주 사용 용도’, ‘스마트폰의 장점’, ‘스마트폰 사용 후 나타나는 관계 변화’, ‘스마트폰 사용 후 나타나는 개인 변화’, ‘스마트폰을 사용하지 못할 때 경험하는 정서’, ‘스마트폰을 사용하지 못할 경우 대안활동’, ‘스마트폰 상의 폭력경험’, ‘스마트폰에서 나타나는 폭력에 대한 대응’, ‘스마트폰 사용 조절의 어려움’과 ‘스마트폰 과다 사용 예방 방법’, ‘스마트폰 사용 조절 시 부모 및 교사에 대한 기대’, ‘스마트폰 과다 사용자를 위한 도움 방법’ 등 12개 영역 내 총 51개의 의미범주가 나타났다. 특히 참여한 청소년들 대부분이 스마트폰 사용에 따른 관계와 개인적인 변화를 인식하고 있었으며, 중학교와 고등학교 학생들 간 스마트폰 사용 경험에 대한 인식차이가 크게 나타났음을 확인할 수 있었다. 본 연구는 스마트폰 사용에 대한 청소년들의 경험을 구체화하고, 추후 스마트폰 관련 프로그램 개발에 필요한 경험적 자료를 제공하는데 그 의의가 있다고 하겠다.
Abstract
With the recent rapid increase of smart phone uses among middle and high school students, addiction involving smart phone uses has emerged as a social issue. Smart phone-related research is in its early stage, excessively focusing on smart phone addiction. There is thus the shortage of experiential research in relation to the perceptions of general users. The subjects are also usually adults, the major user group, which means that research on adolescents relatively vulnerable to media addiction is in shortage. This study thus conducted a focus group interview with five middle and high school student groups with four researchers and one supervisor participating in data analysis to analyze the perceptions of experiences and regulations with regard to smart phone uses and provide basic data needed for education and prevention programs for smart phone uses in the field. As a result, there were total 51 categories of meaning in 12 areas, which include "major purposes of smart phone," "advantages of smart phone," "relationship changes after smart phone uses," "personal changes after smart phone uses," "emotions experienced when not being able to use smart phone," "alternative activities when not being able to use smart phone," "difficulty with regulating smart phone uses," "methods to prevent excessive uses," and "methods to help excessive users of smart phone." Most of the participating adolescents especially were aware of changes to their interpersonal relationships and within themselves according to smart phone uses with differences in the perceptions of smart phone use experiences between middle and high school students. The study claims its significance in that it presented specific adolescent experiences with smart phone uses and provided experiential data needed to develop smart phone-related programs in future.
