특성 불안이 대학생의 진로 미결정 수준에 미치는 효과:진로 정체감의 매개효과

초록

본 연구는 대학생의 진로 미결정 수준에 영향을 미치는 변인으로 개인의 성격적 특성인 특성 불안과 대학생 시기에 달성해야 할 중요한 발달과업인 진로 정체감을 설정하였다. 즉, 특성 불안이 진로 미결정 수준에 영향을 미칠 것인가와 특성 불안, 진로 정체감, 진로 미결정의 관계에서 진로 정체감의 매개효과가 유의한가에 대하여 검증하였다. 전국적으로 균등 할당 표집하여 총 800명에 대하여 연구하였다. 분석결과, 대학생들의 특성 불안 수준이 높을수록 진로 미결정 상태에 머무르기 쉬운 것으로 나타났다. 진로 연구분야에서 빠뜨릴 수 없는 진로 정체감 요인을 매개변인으로 투입하였을 때, 특성 불안 수준이 높을수록 진로 정체감 형성을 방해하고 이것은 다시 진로 미결정에 이르게 하는데 유의미하게 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 진로 정체감은 진로 미결정에 대한 부분 매개변인으로서의 역할을 한다고 볼 수 있다. 진로 미결정은 향후 개인이 진로준비 행동을 실천하는데 사전 영향요인으로 작용하기 때문에 본 연구의 특성 불안, 진로 정체감, 진로 미결정 변인 간의 관계 모형에 대한 검증결과는 향후 행동측면의 변인에 대한 이론적 모형을 정립하는데 기초자료로 활용될 수 있을 것이다. 본 연구는 대학생이 진로 미결정에서 탈피하기 위해서는 특성 불안을 적절하게 잘 다루어 진로 정체감을 형성할 수 있도록 교육환경을 조성할 필요가 있음을 시사하고 있다. 적절한 개입활동을 통하여 진로결정 수준을 높인다면 향후 진로준비 행동을 실천하는 데에도 긍정적인 영향을 미칠 것으로 기대한다.

Abstract

This study examines trait anxiety and career identity as the meaningful factors in college students' career indecision. Whether trait anxiety has an effect on college students' career indecision and whether the mediating effect of career identity would be affected in adults' career indecision are tested. 800 university students in Korea were analyzed for this study. The results show that overall college students' career indecision statistically significantly increases according to trait anxiety. In particular, even when we consider career identity level, trait anxiety is found to have an effect on college students' career indecision level. Therefore, it can be assumed that career identity mediates between the two variables, trait anxiety and career indecision. The relation model between trait anxiety and career indecision can be a theoretical foundation for not only career variables from the cognitive perspective but also career variables from the behavioral perspective. This study also implies that the career counselor is necessary to decrease the level of career indecision for college students' career preparation behavior.
