창의성을 촉진하는 초등학교 공간속성에 관한 연구

초록

이 연구의 목적은 초등학교에 창의성을 지원하고 촉진하는 물리적 환경을 조성하고자 할 때 고려해야 할 창의적 공간의 기본속성을 도출하고, 초등학교 학년별 창의적 공간 속성의 우선순위를 도출함으로써 ‘창의융합형 인재 양성’이라는 21세기 지식기반사회의 교육목표와 비전에 부합하는 창의적 초등학교 공간계획의 기본방향을 제시하는 데 있다. 이를 위해 창의성과 물리적 환경간의 관계성을 탐색하였다. 이어 선행연구 및 문헌고찰, 전문가 검토, 델파이 조사를 실시하였다. 이를 통해 창의성을 지원하고 촉진하는 물리적 환경이 가지는 창의적 공간의 기본속성을 도출하였다. 그리고 창의적 초등학교 공간 조성 시 고려해야 할 학년별 공간 속성의 중요도를 구하고, 그 차이점을 분석하였다. 연구결과 첫째, 창의성을 지원하고 촉진하는 초등학교 창의적 공간의 기본속성으로 융통성, 개방성, 다양성, 연결성, 안락함, 유희성, 자율성, 충분성, 복합성, 협력성 등 10가지 속성을 도출하였다. 둘째, 학년 그룹별로 먼저 고려해야 할 창의적 공간 속성의 우선순위가 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 즉, 1~2학년을 위한 창의적 공간 속성의 우선순위는 유희성, 안락함, 다양성 순으로 나타났으며, 3~4학년을 위한 창의적 공간은 다양성, 유희성, 안락함 순으로 나타났다. 반면, 5~6학년을 위한 창의적 공간 속성의 우선순위는 다양성, 자율성, 융통성 순으로 나타났다. 이 연구는 창의성을 지원하고 촉진하는 공간의 속성과 학년별로 더 중요한 속성이 무엇인지를 도출함으로써 21세기 지식기반사회의 교육목표와 비전에 부합하는 창의적인 초등학교 공간계획의 기본방향을 구체적으로 제시했다는 점에서 의의가 있다.

Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the essential qualities required to create a creative space. Such spaces are needed to support and promote creativity in primary schools. This study also aimed to determine the priorities of each grade level for the creation of creative spaces. This study provides directions for creative space planning at primary schools which correspond to educational goals and the vision of a 21st century knowledge-based society. That educational goal being the ‘nurturing of a creative person with talent’. Design/methodology/data/approach: This study investigated the relationship between creativity and physical environment. Based on previous studies, literature reviews, experts reviews and the Delphi survey this study determined the qualities of creative spaces, physical environments that support and promote creativity. It also explored the importance of special qualities per grade level. The differences between them were also analyzed. Findings/Results: The main research results are as follows; first, 10 such basic qualities of creative spaces at primary schools were identified in terms of their support and promotion of creativity: flexibility, openness, variety, connectivity, comfort, playfulness, autonomy, sufficiency, complexity, and collaboration. Second, the priorities for each grade level were identified. For first and second grade students: playfulness, comfort and variety were identified as priorities. For third and fourth grade students: variety, playfulness, and comfort were identified as priorities. For fifth and sixth grade students: variety, autonomy, and flexibility were identified as priorities. Values: This study also aimed to prioritize the essential qualities of creative spaces according to grade level in primary schools. This study provides directions for creative space planning at primary schools which correspond to educational goals and the vision of a 21st century knowledge-based society.
