대학생의 내면화된 수치심과 외로움의 관계: 자기은폐와 지각한 사회적 관계망의 매개효과

초록

본 연구의 목적은 내면화된 수치심, 자기은폐, 사회적 관계망, 외로움 간의 관계를 알아보고, 내면화된 수치심과 외로움의 관계에서 자기은폐와 사회적 관계망의 역할을 검증하는 것이다. 이를 검증하기 위해 부산 소재 대학에 재학 중인 남녀 대학생 433명을 대상으로 온라인 형식의 자기보고식 설문지를 배포하여 자료를 수집하였다. 수집된 자료를 분석하기 위하여 신뢰도 분석, 기술통계분석, 상관분석, 구조방정식 모형 검증을 사용하였다. 본 연구의 주요 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 대학생의 내면화된 수치심과 자기은폐, 외로움 모두 유의한 정적 상관을 보였고, 사회적 관계망과는 유의한 부적 상관을 보였다. 둘째, 자기은폐와 사회적 관계망 모두 내면화된 수치심과 외로움의 관계를 부분매개 하였다. 즉, 내면화된 수치심은 외로움에 직접적인 영향을 미칠 뿐만 아니라, 자기은폐와 사회적 관계망을 통해서도 영향을 줄 수 있다는 것을 확인하였다. 본 연구 결과는 내면화된 수치심 성향이 높은 대학생의 외로움을 경감시키기 위해 자기은폐와 사회적 관계망의 수준을 확인하고, 이에 대한 개입이 필요함을 시사한다.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the relationships among internalized shame, self-concealment, social network and loneliness, and to verify the parallel multiple mediating effects of self-concealment and social network on the relationship between internalized shame and loneliness. Data were collected from 433 college students and were analyzed using reliability analyses, descriptive statistics, correlation analyses, and structural equation modelings. Findings of this study were as follows. First, internalized shame, self-concealment, and loneliness were positively correlated with one another. Also, internalized shame, social network (size and frequency of contacts), and loneliness were negatively correlated with one another. Second, structural equation modeling analyses indicated that internalized shame had a direct effect on loneliness, and that self-concealment and social network (size and frequency of contacts) had an indirect influence on loneliness. This finding could mean that university students who show a high level of internalized shame tend to hide their true self and withdraw from social relationships, resulting in th experience of loneliness. These findings suggest the need to consider self-concealment and social network used to reduce loneliness, when working with university students who show a high level of internalized shame.
