Abstract
In South Korea, national strategies to cope with the information revolution had been driven by economic and industrial concerns until the late-1990s. In recent years, however, as the impact of the information revolution has reached to the every aspect of world order change, South Korea is now facing a new set of challenges caused by the information revolution in the field of diplomatic affairs. This paper conceptualizes the changing nature of diplomacy in the information age as "knowledge/network," a conceptual nexus of "knowledge diplomacy" and "network diplomacy," and examines the possibilities and limitations of Korea's diplomacy coping with the information revolution. Evaluating the so-called "informatization project" in diplomatic affairs, such as IT(information technology) infrastructure, digitalization of diplomatic information, and a discourse on "the IT hub state," from a critical perspective, this paper attempts to present essential tasks that the Korean government should seriously consider in order to achieve the goal of "network diplomacy" as well as "knowledge diplomacy."
