『단재 신채호 전집』편찬의 의의와 과제- 「역사편」을 중심으로 -

Abstract

Total 9 volumes of “Danjae Shin Chae Ho's complete collection” (The institute of Korean Independence Movement, Independence Hall of Korea, 2007~2008) have been newly compiled since “Revised edition of Danjae Shin Chae Ho's complete collection” (Shin Chae Ho Memorial Foundation, 1977) was published 30 years ago. First of all, 4 volumes of the history field in the new complete collection were published in August, 2007 and the publication of 5 volumes by the field was completed in April, 2008. As the new edition unlike the existing collection presented the source book of all materials and corrected the errors of the existing collection, it would be the new cornerstone for studying Danjae. The critical points of the existing collection which were pointed out by scholars are as follows; The issue to decide the authorship of Danjae's anonymous dissertations included in the existing collection, some literary works written by the other authors included in the collection and the works which did not present the source book. And as 30 years have passed since the existing collection was published, it was necessary to supplement Danjae's works which were newly found out by scholars and new materials which were verified as the works of Danjae after the start of official relations between Korea and China. Especially some of Danjae's works which were undisclosed were published in North Korea and they have been opened by a Chinese scholar. As it was confirmed that there were lots of undisclosed materials in North Korea in the course of having a conference about the collection of Danjae's works with the scholars in North Korea, it was required to publish a new collection. In particular, I hope that undisclosed Danjae's works in the People's grand study house in North Korea will be opened to the public as soon as possible and this will be the turning point for the study of Danjae. Also I hope that this will recover an understanding of our national history of the division between the two Koreas and serve as an momentum to be a stepping stone for the unification of the peoples of Korea. The first volume of the history field incudes “Joseonsangosa-Korea's ancient history” which is Danjae's masterpiece among his literary works on history and the second volume includes his important work “Joseonsayeongoocho - A draft of the study on Korea's history” in 1920s when he showed much enthusiasm for study. The third volume includes “Doksashinron - A new comment on reading history”, “Daedongajaegooksaseoon - A foreword on history of the great Asian empires” and “Joseonsanggomoonhwasa - Korea's ancient cultural history” which were Danjae's representative works from the time of his early studies till 1910s. The fourth volume includes 4 biographical writings including “Euljimoondeok” which show his historical recognition. The materials included in the complete collection consisted of the manuscripts Danjae wrote by himself and the photoprints of the original publications, and the necessary parts for the readers' understanding and convenience were typewritten and attached at the end of the volume. The typewriting work was made faithfully according to the original text including Chinese writing and archaic words, however, spacing words were abided by the modern rules of spelling. The obvious errors were put in parenthesis and a remarks with small letters were added. In order to minimize the errors in the course of typewriting, the person who gave a bibliographical explanation was made to read and correct them finally. In case of the editorials published in the press, the number of pages was adjusted and edited not to damage the import of the original text. In this point, the existing collection with almost printed articles can not be compared with the new one. As its index was made on the basis of the new printed edition as an original text, it offers the readers convenience for perusal. The significance of the publication of the new complete collection is as follows; 1) As it offers researchers various materials, it mitigates their inconvenience to read the original texts one by one and provides them with the convenience to use materials. 2) As the errors in the existing collection were corrected, the scientific accuracy of materials of Danjae improved. 3) As 30 years have passed since the existing collection was published and newly discovered materials were supplemented, Danjae's materials were compiled into this new edition. 4) As the newly printed edition was made on the basis of the materials closest to the original texts and the index was made on the basis of the newly printed edition, it could be highly estimated in the point that it provides the researchers with the convenience for perusal and improves the availability of materials. But we have to bear our future task in mind, First of all, we have to make an effort to find out Danjae's materials undiscovered including the collection in North Korea, and exercise our utmost wisdom to make the publication of this complete collection be the new momentum for the study of Danjae. And systematic cooperation systems among related organizations should be considered.
