Abstract

A Korean patriot, Yoon Bong Gil carried out a worthy undertaking to throw a bomb in Hongkou Park in Shanghai. As soon as his patriotic deed took place, many Chinese press including “Shishixinbao, 時事新報”, “Shibao, 時報”, “Shenbao, 申報”, “Shanghaibao, 上海報”, “Dawanbao, 大晩報”, “Dagongbao, 大公報”, “Zhongyangribao, 中央日報” extensively reported the event. Chinese press continued to report it for 2 months till June of the year. In the article I examined and analyzed the contents of the reports on the event appeared in many Chinese newspapers. The reports of Chinese press include very detailed and concrete contents about the event. Though the Japanese authorities carried news censorship thoroughly, Chinese newspapers covered it on the spot from the day of the event and reported it. The contents of their reports were various as follows; the scene of the commemorative ceremony in Hongkou Park and the situation at the moment of bombing, Arresting Yoon Bong Gil and examining him, deaths and injuries of Japanese key figures and their treatment progress, searching and arresting Koreans in a French concession, the measures of the Japanese authorities, Chinese response, response of various countries, etc. In these contents of the reports there are considerable fresh facts which were not known up to now. One of them is that the Emperor of Japan awarded General Sirakawa special wine and dubbed him a baron mourning his death. And it is another new fact that the court-martial of the Japanese expeditionary army to hanghai sentenced Yun Bong Gil to death on the 25th of May in retaliation for the death of General Sirakawa. I could confirm the importance of Chinese press in my study one more time. There are many fresh facts in the contents of the reports of Chinese press. They have very important value as data for studying Yun Bong Gil’s patriotic deed.
