판교신도시 도시기반시설 하부공간의 활용 디자인 연구 -조형적 개입을 통한 커뮤니티 문화공간으로의 변용 -

Abstract

(Background and Purpose) Urban infrastructures such as elevated roads and bridges have helped resolve many problems related to transport and living conditions in cities. They have also played a considerable role in the expansion of cities and the development of satellite towns. Nevertheless, huge urban infrastructures have created problems, such as the interruption of citizens’ view and isolation of local communities. As a countermeasure to such problems, this study suggests the utilization of spaces accompanying urban infrastructure through public space design projects. (Method) This paper is composed as follows: Part 2 contemplates the meaning of “public space” and identifies the factors necessary to transform “public spaces” into “community spaces.” Part 3 presents site-specific urban space designs by taking the art elements applicable to the sites into consideration. The art elements were identified based on the respective local characteristics and site-specific qualities of seven sites that had previously been identified in part 2. (Result) With regard to public spaces, cities are in need of a new trend of urban design that faithfully reflects culture and safety issues related to the concerned sites. Improving the visual environments of the spaces accompanying urban infrastructure can be one measure to address these needs.
