Abstract

(Background and Purpose) In developing urban spaces, there is an active discussion on the values to preserve and to create. Accordingly, the park, the representative public space of the city, is required to preserve and utilize the existing landscape resources, and to function as a new place of leisure and culture in the city. Through an analysis of the design strategy and contents of Gulbitnuri Park, this study proposes a plan to revitalize urban parks that harmonizes various values. (Method) This study examines the flow of landscape conservation and utilization in urban spaces, and the significance of preserving grassland landscapes of the site from the perspective of cultural landscapes. In addition, through case studies, this study explored the process of expanding the functions of cultural facilities such as art museums and libraries into parks, to develop the concept of a park with expanded urban functions and implications for concrete design. (Results) Accordingly, Gulbitnuri Park was designed to create a leisure culture space for local residents, incorporating the value of the existing landscape and its function as an urban park. The main contents are as follows: First, the grassland landscape as a cultural landscape that reproduces the landscape of the abandoned paddy fields was introduced into the park. Second, expanding the function of the library located in the park, to the park, enhances leisure and culture as a library park, and adapts to the various functions required in the surrounding residential area and schools. Third, an integrated image was given to the park using the shape and color plan of the outdoor facilities from the library building in the park. (Conclusions) In this study, from the perspective of cultural landscape, the plan for revitalization of urban parks in connection with a library in the park was applied to the actual site based on the various semantic functions provided by the preservation and utilization of existing landscape resources to the local communities. As the proposed plan reflects the characteristics of a specific site, there may be limitations in applying it to other sites collectively. However, the proposed planning direction and design elements can be meaningful in that they can be applied in the creation of an urban park, and provide value as an example of a future urban park.
