(연구배경 및 목적) 현대 도시에서 장소에 대한 연구는 다각적 접근이 이루어지고 있으며, 장소와 장소성 그리고 장소정체성에 이르기까지 매우 다양한 개념으로 사용되고 있고 다양한 해석과 변화를 나타내고 있다. 장소와 장소성 관련 연구는 국내외적으로 많이 이루어지고 있지만 장소성에 관련된 개념들은 계속 변화, 진화되고 있으며 복합적이고 모호한 개념으로 인지되고 사용되고 있는 것이 현실이다. 그러므로 혼재되어 사용되고 있는 장소와 장소성 그리고 장소정체성에 대하여 개념을 재해석하고 위계적 정립을 통하여 명확한 체계를 정립하고자 한다. 장소에서부터 장소정체성에 이르기까지 관련 유사한 개념들의 이론적 고찰과 비교를 통해 현재 사용되고 있는 용어들의 위계적 체계 및 개념을 보다 명확하게 하는 것을 목적으로 한다. (연구방법) 장소성과 관련된 유사 개념의 이론적 고찰을 기반으로 장소성과 관련된 혼재된 이론들의 용어에 대한 이해와 장소관련 다의적 개념들을 파악한다. 다양한 관점에서 장소와 그와 관련된 유사 개념들의 혼재적 사용으로 공간과 장소, 공간의 장소화, 장소감과 장소성 그리고 장소정체성에 이르기까지 개념들을 비교하여 연구하고자 한다. 개념의 재정립과 상호간의 관계성을 살펴보고 그에 따른 개념적 위계를 도출하고자 한다. 각각의 개념적 위계에 따른 정의를 내리고 관계와 위계적 체계를 명확히 하고자 한다. (결과) 이에 본 연구에서는 혼재되어 사용되는 용어의 해석을 통해 용어가 가지는 의미를 비교하였다. 장소와 관련된 용어의 다의적 해석으로 용어, 문맥상, 의미상 다양하게 사용되고 있는 공간과 장소, 장소감과 장소성에 대한 개념과 비교를 통한 명확한 개념 재인식과 체계를 구분하였다. 장소정체성에 대한 개념의 이해와 특성을 파악하고 장소정체성의 구성요소를 파악함으로 세부적으로 관련된 다양한 개념의 관계와 확장에 대하여 살펴보았다. 마지막으로 장소정체성을 위한 다의적 개념들에 대한 종합적 개념과 위계를 정리하였다. (결론) 본 연구에서는 장소에 대한 다양한 이론들이 난립하고 장소정체성에 대한 중요성이 높아짐으로 기존의 선행연구에 대한 조사를 통하여 장소의 다양한 관점을 비교하고 공간과 장소, 장소감과 장소성, 장소정체성을 구성하는 장소감과 장소성에 대하여 개념적 이해 및 위계적 체계을 명확히 함으로 장소정체성과 관련된 다양한 개념의 혼제적 사용에 대한 관계와 위계를 정립하였다.
Abstract
(Background and Purpose) Research on contemporary urban space is adopting a multilateral approach, and it is used in a wide variety of concepts ranging from place and placeness to place identity and involves various interpretations and changes. Although many studies related to place and placeness are being conducted at home and abroad, the reality is that concepts related to placeness are recognized and used as complex and ambiguous ones as they are constantly changing and evolving. Therefore, the concept of place, placeness, and place identity, which are used interchangeably, is reinterpreted and hierarchically established to clearly set a system. This study clarifies the hierarchical system and concepts of terms currently used through theoretical review and comparisons of related similar concepts from place to place identity. (Method) It seeks to understand the terminology of mixed theories on placeness and to grasp multi-meaningful concepts of the place based on the theoretical review of similar concepts of the placeness. From various perspectives, it intends to compare and study concepts ranging from space and place, place-making of space, sense of place and placeness, and place identity resulting from the mixed use of place and its related concepts. It derives a conceptual hierarchy by re-establishing the concepts and examining their interrelationships. Each conceptual hierarchy is defined and the relationship and the hierarchical system clarified. (Results) The meanings of terms used interchangeably were compared through interpretation The concepts are clearly re-recognized and the system divided through the concept comparison of space and place, and sense of place and placeness, which were used in various ways in terms, contexts, and meanings due to the multiple interpretation of place related terms. This study examined the relationship and extension of various concepts related in detail by understanding the concept of place identity, determining the characteristics and identifying the elements of place identity. Finally, it summarized the overall concept and hierarchy of multi-meaningful concepts for the place identity. (Conclusions) This study established the relationship and the hierarchical system for various concepts related to the place identity that are used interchangeably by comparing various viewpoints of place and clarifying the conceptual understanding and the hierarchical system of space and place, sense of place and placeness, and sense of place and placeness that constitutes place identity through the review of existing previous studies, as there were a lot of various theories about place and the importance of place identity increased.
