Abstract
(Research Background and Purpose) Adolescence, a crucial stage in human development, is characterized by significant physical, emotional, and social changes. It is a period when individuals form their self-identity, a process pivotal to their future adult lives. Challenges in adolescence, if not navigated successfully, can lead to a range of mental and social issues. Exposure to traumatic events like school, sexual, and domestic violence can profoundly impact adolescents' mental health, leading to lasting psychological trauma into adulthood. Recognizing the severity of these issues, this study is dedicated to protecting adolescents' mental health and aiding them in establishing a robust self-identity. Our focus is on exploring the design of spaces specifically tailored for youth PTSD counseling, utilizing color psychology to positively influence emotions and facilitate healing.(Research Method) This study employs a comprehensive approach, beginning with a thorough literature review and analysis of existing research on color psychology, healing spaces, and adolescent PTSD. From these theoretical foundations, we develop a research analysis model. This model is applied to conduct detailed case studies of five domestic and international PTSD counseling centers. The insights gained from these studies are then used to inform and propose new directions in the design of therapeutic spaces.(Results) Our research involved a careful selection and analysis of six PTSD centers, both domestically and internationally. We evaluated these centers based on three spatial and five functional elements, with a particular emphasis on the application of color psychology. Our findings revealed that while these centers generally offer well-structured community spaces, they often lack adequate physical and educational support facilities for adolescents. In terms of color usage, our analysis indicated a preference for greens and blues, colors known for their calming and stabilizing effects. Conversely, colors like yellow, which evoke optimism, and purple, associated with artistic sensibility, were less prevalent. This pattern suggests a gap in understanding and utilizing color perception and visual support tailored to adolescent needs and preferences.(Conclusion) The findings of this study underscore the importance of creating specialized PTSD healing centers that are attuned to the psychological needs of adolescents. Such centers should not only encompass expanded physical spaces but also incorporate carefully considered visual and perceptual elements, particularly in the choice of colors. The study also emphasizes the need for integrating educational programs and culturally relevant features into these spaces, making them more appealing and effective for adolescent users. By providing these targeted interventions, the study aims to contribute to the ongoing efforts in adolescent mental health, offering a range of strategies for their healthy development and transition into adulthood. In doing so, it seeks to establish a framework for future research, focused on the continuous support and healing of adolescents facing psychological challenges.
